Thanks to the on-growing momentum of agile methodology, the success rate in software development has increased manifolds. Agile by literal means able to move quickly and easily. Agile software development focuses on enabling teams to deliver work in workable increments, delivering quality with ease.

It is used to describe approaches for software development with the aim of incremental delivery, team cooperation, continual learning, and continual planning. Let’s delve further into different agile methodologies for a better software development cycle.

Different Agile Methodologies:

1. Kanban

In Japanese, Kanban means ‘signboard’, so basically, it is a visual system for managing work. It paints the picture of the entire work process to implement the plans and rectify the errors at the early stages of development. The sole aim is to manage the work effectively by following a set of principles and improving the entire process effectively. It helps to optimize the flow of tasks between different teams.

It is one of the simplest yet effective ways for the project manager to manage and track the progress of the design and development of software projects.

2. Scrum

The goal of agile scrum methodology is to deliver high value to the stakeholders. Scrum is a way for effective collaboration, iterative progress between the team working on the complex project.

Scrum concentrates on how to manage tasks within a team-based development environment. It empowers the development team and helps to work in small teams. It prioritized wish lists, and one small piece at the top of the wish list is called a sprint and implements it. One sprint does not extend the deadline of more than a month.

3. Extreme Programming (XP)

It is meant for a small team, not more than 12 people. XP is often used with scrum. It works on core values like courage, communication, simplicity, and feedback. Extreme Programming aims for quality development work using proven engineering practices. It is a viable option where the functionalities are not sure or, where there is constant change in the customer’s demand. The common XP practices include pair programming, refactoring, continuous integration, and test-driven development.

4. Crystal

Considered as one of the most lightweight ways for software development. Crystal highly focuses on the earliest product delivery, versatility, and crucially uprooting distractions. It works on various focuses like people, interaction, communication, talents skills, and community. Its methodologies include Crystal Orange, Crystal Yellow, and Crystal Clear.

5. Lean

Lean works on principles like removing waste, early delivery, amplifying learning, empowering the team, building integrity, defer commitment, and optimize the entire process. With the motto to deliver at the earliest and reduce the development cost. It is an approach where the team releases minimum or basic features of the product and gets feedback from the users and then implements it into the final product.

Conclusion

The above listed were some agile methodologies used in software development and project management. Many MNCs, startups have incorporated agile methodology to pace up with the innovative and fast-moving world. What do you think is an apt methodology for your software development company?
